If you’ve ever targeted Pike or Musky on a fly rod, you know they’re tricky fish to fool. These predators eat large flies, require long days on the water, and necessitate strong and durable gear. The SA SONAR Musky fly line features overbuilt heads to load stout, fast-action rods and turn over monstrous flies. The Sink 5 Tip helps these flies sink quickly and the intermediate running line keeps them deep for the duration of the retrieve. This is one of the best lines on the market for huge Pike and Musky on the fly.

AST Plus Slickness - SA has built a number of important features into this line. AST Plus Slickness allows anglers to quickly shoot line with friction-minimizing performance. Welded loops on both ends allow easy leader/backing attachment. A braided multifilament core is strong and supple for versatility and durability. This version of the SONAR Musky also features a durable sink tip with a seamless transfer to the intermediate running line for castability and practicality.

Streamers, Blind Casting - It’s no secret that Musky are caught on some of the largest streamers in fly fishing. 9-inch flies aren’t uncommon when targeting these predatory beasts. This line features an extremely powerful head to turn over typical Musky flies with a Sink 5 head to get your flies down deep. The intermediate running line helps keep your flies in the zone to increase hookup rates and to help you catch more fish.

Cold/Moderate - This line is made to be used in cold and moderate climates including freshwater streams and rivers, lakes almost any climate. Most Musky are caught in lakes and this is a great line for cold and moderate temperatures where Musky are often found. That being said, this line will turn limp in tropical climates and isn’t meant to be used in high heat.

Heavy, Powerful Head to Turn Over Large Flies - This line is heavy. The 8-9 version has a 30’ head weight of 350 grains which is more commonly thought of as an 11wt or 12wt line. As we described above, these lines are built heavy for a reason but choose your rod accordingly. The 8-9wt line and 9-10wt line feature 25’ heads and the 10-11wt line and 11-12wt line feature 30’ heads for optimal performance with the largest flies on earth.
