An ultra-realistic midge pattern that was created for smart and fickle fish, the Rojo Midge Fly is a pattern that you can count on anytime fish are focused on these tiny aquatic insects. Designed by Greg Garcia to fool the wise trout found in the Cheeseman Canyon, Greg took inspiration for this fly from studying midges, and one thing that he noted was the significant ‚super charged‚ hemoglobin often found in the thorax of late pupal midges. Taking this into consideration, Greg worked a red bead into the thorax of this fly and finished it off with a ribbed thread body, peacock herl thorax, and Uni-Stretch head to imitate gills. It wasnt long before Greg found great success with this design and the Rojo Midge was born.
Since midges are active all year long and this fly has an ability to imitate both midge larvae and pupae, the Rojo Midge is a pattern that can be fished any day of the year. Whether you are hanging it off of a larger nymph, fishing it on it is own under an indicator, or dropping it off of a dry fly, the Rojo Midge is a pattern that you can turn to anywhere you are fishing.
