Rio Premier Outbound Short Night Shift Fly Line

Partnering with our friends at Rio, we’ve taken their long-loved Outbound Short Fly Line and tweaked it just enough to make it a perfect fit for our specific needs. Starting with the line’s temp rating, we’ve kept the supple coldwater core that the OBS has used for years and added a hard tropical coating. This provides a wide range of versatility across fresh and saltwater, encompassing anything from colder days in the warm waters of Flordia’s canals to the cold spring tidal waters in our home state of Maine–and last but certainly not least, this line excels in situations when the air temperature is hot enough to heat a boat’s deck into the 80-degree range, yet the water is still a cool 60-degrees. To provide stealth across all of these environments, we’ve brought back Rio’s clear tip so that you can make those casts at tough fish in gin-clear conditions with confidence. For those nocturnal missions, we’ve also incorporated a glow-in-the-dark running line to make keeping track of your presentations as easy as can be, and with the Outbound Short’s aggressive taper, making long shots and covering water efficiently even after the lights are out has never been easier. A truly versatile line that we’re proud to offer, the Outbound Short Night Shift Fly Line has you covered from bass, blues, and albies in New England all the way down to late-night mousing on the Delaware and monster reds in the south. 

Features

We’ve integrated a handful of features into the Outbound Short Night Shift Line that makes it an excellent choice. Beginning with the glow-in-the-dark running line, this line emits a glow when fishing at night that’s subtle enough to prevent spooking fish while making it easy to keep track of your presentation. And to give convenience across all 24 hours in a day, we’ve brought Rio’s clear tip back for this series of lines in order to let you make stealthy presentations no matter how high the sun is or how clear the water may be. 

Combine these two pieces of technology with Rio’s aggressive taper and their SlickCast tech, and you’ll quickly find that the Night Shift Line is an excellent choice for almost any fishing situation you find yourself in. 

Uses

Streamers and Crustaceans - We’ve made this line in an intermediate configuration, which allows you to fish anything from small streamers like the Schminnow and all the way up to heavy Clousers and behemoth Beast Fleyes. Not only will this line handle a range of streamers, but when you find yourself in the skinny and need to present a crab or shrimp, this line is an excellent choice just the same. 

Temp

Warm - Not quite tropical and not quite a cold water line, we’ve made the Night Shift line as an in-between option. This temperature configuration allows you to fish that sweet spot of temps ranging from the 60s and into the 70s.  We’ve achieved this by combining the supple coldwater core with Rio’s hard tropical coating. 

Taper/Weight

More Mass Towards the Front of the Head - The Outbound Short has been a go-to taper for us for years. We’ve found that it loads fast-action rods incredibly well and makes casting nice and easy across a range of distances. With this compact and aggressive taper, the Outbound Short Night Shift Line lets you deliver anything from small shrimp all the way to a 12” Beast, further enhancing the versatility of this line.
