Who It’s For

  •  Trout anglers
  •  Couples & groups

When To Go

The fishing season at Rio Manso Lodge runs from November through April. The early season from November through December is the runoff period and can experience higher flows more conducive to streamer fishing with sinking lines. January through February are the peak summer months and offer medium flows, great wading conditions, and excellent hatches. March and April bring the autumn season and offer anglers lower flows, cooler temperatures, and fantastic streamer fishing.

Brook Trout

From Rio Manso Lodge, several lakes within proximity offer incredible fishing for strong, wild Brook Trout. Guides utilize Carolina Skiffs to cruise the lake’s drop-offs and shorelines, where anglers can target aggressive Brookies using streamers and attractor dry flies. Sizeable Brook Trout are caught frequently, with some weighing up to 5 pounds.

Brown Trout

The Rio Manso features a healthy population of wild brown trout which can range in size from 10 inches to well over 20 inches. Here, anglers can target browns using various techniques including dry flies, nymphing, and streamers.

Rainbow Trout

In addition to Brookies and Browns, the Rio Manso and its interconnected lakes also offer opportunities for catching wild Rainbow Trout. While the Rainbows don’t generally get as large as their Brown Trout counterparts, they are however extremely exciting to target with dry flies and streamers along structured shorelines.

Equipment

Successful fishing at Rio Manso Lodge typically requires multiple rods with matching reels. We recommend bringing 3 rods: a 9’ 5wt for dry flies, a 9’ 6wt for nymphing, and a 9’ 7wt with a sinking line for streamers on the lakes. Your guides will help you rig appropriately for the day’s fishing. We recommend adhering to the packing and equipment lists provided by Trident.

Most importantly, you should practice casting a sinking line, as sinking lines can be very effective in lake fishing. Lastly, figure out your travel logistics well in advance.
