This fly was created in a similar style to the traditional Perdigon with a few key differences. Umpqua Signature Tyer Devin Olsen notes that stripped peacock quills make the perfect segmented mayfly bodies but they’re fragile and often wear out after a few fish. As a solution to this problem, Devin Olsen covered the fly with resin to increase durability without subtracting from the natural color and shape of the peacock quills. When covered with resin, this fly looks a lot like a Perdigon, hence the name. Unlike the Perdigon, however, this fly isn’t tied on a jig hook so it’s a great pattern to use in a double nymph rig or as a dropper. Available in pink, yellow, and natural, and multiple different sizes, this small mayfly nymph can be used from the western US to New Zealand and in almost any trout river in between. This is also a great spring creek fly because of its small, technical profile and its lifelike appearance in the water.
