These birds are bred to have feathers that mimic expensive Spey hackles, and with long, fine, and flowing fibers coupled with a thin stem, these feathers do an excellent job whether you're tying shrimp patterns, saltwater baitfish, or typical steelhead\/salmon flies. Whiting's Bird Fur patches have a wide assortment of feather sizes, allowing you to wrap most small to large patterns, and with Whiting's excellent range of colors, you'll always be able to find what you need. The fibers on these feathers are long and wispy and the fine stem allows for easy wrapping, characteristics that few other feathers easily found on the market possess. Although Bird Fur offers a look of its own, Schlappen would be an okay substitute, especially if you strip off one side of the feather in order to reduce the density of the feather.
