PMX Dry Fly

An effective take on Doug Swisher's Madam X Fly, the PMX (Parachute Madam X) Dry Fly is one of those versatile dry flies that can be used as a searching pattern as well as when you need a more imitative dry fly. First tied on the west coast and fished as an imitation for grasshoppers and stoneflies, it wasn't long before the PMX Dry Fly spread all around the globe. This fly is tied with elk hair tail and wing, floss body, peacock thorax, synthetic wing wound with hackle, and rubber legs for additional movement and can effectively imitate anything from an adult stonefly, grasshopper, cricket, and even some adult caddis. 

With its buoyant design, the PMX Dry Fly is a great choice for the classic "Hopper Dropper" nymph rig, but it can also be fished just as well by itself, and because it can imitate such a range of insects, this is a fly that's common in sizes 8-14. Carry it in a few different colors, with a yellow or lime body being most popular, the PMX Dry Fly can catch anything from western brown trout, eastern brookies, or even those backyard bass.
