The Parawulff is a great dry fly to fish when trout are eating larger insects on the surface like Drakes, Hexagenia, or Moths. That being said, the smaller sizes could also imitate a variety of mayflies. As an attractor pattern, this is a great fly for prospecting new water or targeting free-feeding trout on streams and creeks with minimal pressure. This isn’t a technical fly, but it’s a phenomenal fly to have in your box for those days when you don’t see a specific hatch but fish are still rising. The Parawulff features an accentuated tail, a segmented body, and a highly visible parachute so you never have to worry about losing sight of your fly on the surface of the water. Use this fly on trout rivers from Montana to Colorado to Maine and everywhere in between.
