One of the most common hatches on the east coast, the Sulphur Dun Dry Fly should be in every angler's box from the end of April through July. There is an incredible amount of variation in Sulphur mayflies with at least two separate species (invaria and dorothea) and their sizing can range anywhere from 12-18, so it's important to have a variety of sizes on hand when looking to match these duns. The Sulphur Dry Fly is tied to imitate the naturals and has a pale yellow body with a dun tail, wings, and hackle and it rides high on the water.

The Sulphur Dry Fly is a direct imitation of a Sulphur dun and should be fished whenever you see the naturals emerging. From there, you'll want to fish this fly with a drag-free presentation to fool the most fish. Whether it's an incredibly finicky bite on the Upper Delaware River or a lazy afternoon emergence on the famed Spring Creek, the Sulphur Dry Fly should always be in your dry fly box.
