Orvis Superfine Glass Fly Rod (2022)

Taking their glass series of rods and doing a full redesign, Orvis’ Superfine Glass Rods are all new and better than ever. The Superfine Glass series is built on an S-2 fiberglass core that’s slightly faster than previous models yet still gives smooth casting and a slow feel, while maintaining enough backbone to tackle larger fish and present more than just your standard nymphs and dry flies. Made in southern Vermont in line weights 2 through 8, the Superfine Glass family offers a model whether you’re chucking Elk Hair Caddis into plunge pools for brookies or putting larger species like carp and snook on the glass. Built for fishing but made with an aesthetic value in mind, these rods have a clean matte olive blank with a light green accent near the cork, and of course, are finished with handwritten labeling. S-2 Fiberglass - Orvis made their Superfine series of rods with an S-2 fiberglass blank. S-2 fiberglass provides that soft and slow feel that we’ve all grown to love in a glass rod, yet it offers a slightly faster action for making quick and powerful casts when necessary (certainly, much slower than a graphite composition, but a touch faster than some other glass models on the market and Orvis’ original Superfine Glass). A very versatile blank, this rod is a joy to fish whether you’re casting a dry-dropper rig or, in larger weights, throwing something a little less conventional such as larger articulated streamers. 

The Superfine Glass gives a look that’s just timeless. With a matte olive blank and light green accenting, this is a rod that puts a smile on your face every time you take it out of its tube, and the handwritten script is a nice touch that puts the icing on the cake.

As of May 2022, Orvis’ Superfine Glass Fly Rods are backed by their 25-Year Guarantee. This is a straightforward and excellent warranty that lasts for 25 years. It doesn’t matter whether you slam it in a door, step on it, or you encounter a manufacturer defect, Orvis will repair or replace your rod. If the rod can’t be repaired and it’s out of production, Orvis will choose a newer model of at least equal value.
