Umpqua Signature Tyer Ken Morrish is known for patterns like the Morrish Hopper and Morrish Mouse. Truth is, he has created some pretty stellar nymph patterns too. The Iron Sally is an incredibly realistic Yellow Sally nymph with beautiful segmentation, natural legs, a prominent wing case, and a yellow tungsten bead. This is a great pattern for targeting trout in deeper water that are keyed in on yellow sally nymphs or small golden stoneflies. The tungsten bead means this is a great pattern to use with a Euro nymphing setup but it can be fished under an indicator as well. While it’s a little too heavy to fish as a dropper on small dry flies, you could probably use it as a dropper off of a large foam stone dry fly. Available in a few different sizes, this is a must-have pattern for avid trout anglers in the western US and across the country in fisheries that see prolific Yellow Sally hatches.Â
