When it comes to the Popovics Pop Fleye Silverside Fly, necessity was the mother of invention; Bob created this famous Surf Candy Fleye after being sick of bluefish tearing up his flies after only a fish or two. Taking inspiration from Joe Brook’s Blondes, Bob found that he could take the epoxy (now it’s UV resin) all the way beyond the hook’s bend and create a fly that’s durable enough for bluefish, barracuda, albies, and so many more toothy species, and not only was this fly durable, but it also provided the translucent qualities often found in juvenile baitfish.

Popovics Pop Fleye Silverside Fly is a variation of his famous Surf Candy that does an excellent job at imitating silversides. Silversides, also known as spearing, are a very common baitfish found in the Atlantic and are known to feed everything from striped bass and bluefish to albies and bonito. Popovics Pop Fleye Silverside Fly is tied like his other Surf Candies and features a full UV resin body, flash accents, and utilizes Bob’s Fleye Foils to mimic the look of silverside and provide durability that’s hard to beat.
