Yellow Sallies are a small Stonefly that hatch across the western US and beyond during the spring and summer months. These little bugs offer plentiful food to hungry trout both in the nymphal stage and when they hatch into winged adults. The Iron Sally imitates a Yellow Sally nymph and can be quite productive when these bugs are in the water. The jigged design and tungsten head help this fly sink quickly and roll along the bottom of the river where trout are feeding. This is a great pattern to use when Euro nymphing or tightline nymphing but can also be fished under an indicator. The gold wire ribbing adds extra weight to the fly and the dubbing thorax and yellow legs and tail create a lifelike profile in the water. This is a great pattern on the Yellowstone, Beaverhead, and other well-known rivers when trout are feeding on these little stoneflies before they make their way to the surface.
