A tough fish converter for a variety of species ranging from permit to massive brown trout, Hareline’s Sculpin Wool has you covered whether you’re whipping up a large articulated streamer or a small crab imitation. Sculpin Wool comes from a sheep and it’s a highly-voluminous material that quickly absorbs water and can be stacked/spun to craft whatever shape you’re after. From streamer heads that push water to small crustacean bodies for picky saltwater species, Sculpin Wool is easy to work with and allows you to imitate a wide range of forage.

Uses

Sculpin Wool is most typically used to create water-pushing heads on streamers. However, this material has gained popularity when tying crab/shrimp bodies, and it’s also an excellent material when tying up Bob Popovics’s famously deadly Pop Lip and Silicone patterns.

Comparisons

If you prefer your wool to come on the hide instead of having it combed out and consistent, then Hareline’s Ram’s Wool is exactly what you want. Ram’s Wool is the same wool as Sculpin Wool, but it comes on the patch of the hide so you have the natural taper of these fibers at the ready. Both of these are great options, but if you need to add some “flow” and taper to your flies, then Ram’s Wool makes that a bit easier since the ends aren’t cut straight.
