Made in two sizes–narrow at ⅛” and wide at ¼”--Scud Back accommodates a variety of fly sizes, and you can even use this material for other purposes like midge/nymphs bodies, trailing shucks, translucent wing cases, and more.

Uses

Hareline’s Scud Back material is perfect for crafting the backs of crustaceans like scuds and sowbugs. However, you can also use this material when wrapping nymph/midge bodies, tying wing cases, and even tying small crayfish and trailing shucks. 

Comparisons 

Scud Back is a pretty unique material and there isn’t really a great substitute if you’re looking for a similar material that’s translucent, stretches, and is available in the sizes and colors that Scud Back is. However, if you want to add some flash to your crustacean patterns, then various sizes of Flashabou are a great alternative.
