Flashy Wooly Buggers to tempt early-spring trout, bright and buggy bodies on your favorite bass popper to work in the lilypads, or just a hotspot thorax on a heavy nymph pattern, Hareline’s Polar Chenille is a material that helps you tie a range of successful patterns. Combining a flashy exterior with a braided thread core, Polar Chenille sheds water and offers flash and movement in the water as well as durability and ease of use. Available in three different sizes across a range of different colors, Polar Chenille is ready to tie flies from small to large and can be used in both fresh and saltwater patterns.
Uses
Polar Chenille is an excellent choice anytime you want to add flash to your patterns. Whether you’re wrapping it as a body, adding it in as a hotspot, or even using it as a base to palmer a feather as you would for a Wooly Bugger, this synthetic material lets you do it all.
Comparisons
A material that’s pretty similar to Polar Chenille is Spirit River’s Estaz. Estaz has a similar flashy effect on a thread core, but the texture is a bit different than Polar Chenille. Spirit River makes their Estaz in three sizes–Grande, Medium, and Petite–to accommodate a wide range of patterns, just like Polar Chenille. Both of these materials are a great choice when tying flashy bodies or adding flashy accents to your patterns and they can be used in the same manner.
