Hardy’s trout-specific reel is finally here… the Ultralite FWDD is made for the serious trout angler. Designed to be lightweight and incredibly efficient, this small water reel is the perfect marriage between strength and performance. Hardy dialed down the drag system in the Ultralite FWDD and created a reel package that leaves out superfluous add-ons and provides the angler with exactly what he/she needs. If you’re an avid trout bum and looking for a lightweight reel for small stream applications, the FWDD is the reel for you. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Minimalist Design - The design of the Ultralite FWDD is made to be minimalist. Hardy packages only the necessities in this small, lightweight reel for decreased weight and optimal performance. The drag design is paired down, the reel is ultra-lightweight, and the spool is easily released via a push release design. This thing is made for small water trout fishing.
Anodized Finish - The Ultralite FWDD is finished with clean anodizing to protect the bar stock aluminum from dings and scrapes. The finishing helps this reel hold up well on small trout streams when dropped or dragged on a hard surface.
6061 Bar Stock Aluminum - The reel’s 6061 bar stock aluminum design keeps the Ultralite FWDD lightweight and strong. Aluminum is the perfect marriage between decreased weight and increased strength and the Ultralite FWDD is a prime example of that.
Disc Drag - The disc and Rulon drag on the FWDD is designed to be light and playful. This drag system isn’t going to stop a Bonefish or a Tarpon but it’s not designed for that. Rulon keeps the drag system lightweight (like many other things in the reel) and the disc system gives the angler just enough drag to fight larger trout.
Rulon/Carbon Fiber Drag - Carbon fiber and Rulon makes this drag durable and efficient. Many reel manufacturers use a carbon drag system for improved maintenance-free capabilities and solid performance.
Large Arbor - The large arbor design of the Ultralite FWDD allows anglers to pick line up quickly and efficiently. Line pickup is important when fighting trout and the FWDD is designed for quick pickup.
Hardy Limited Warranty - As of September 2019, Hardy warrants that their reels will be free from material defects in design, material, and workmanship for a period of 5 years from the date on which it was originally purchased. The warranty, like many others, doesn’t cover damage from misuse, negligence, or wear and tear. Hardy does repair reels. The service fee is $35 plus replacement parts for repair.
