Wild steelhead are a tough fish to fool, especially so on a dry fly, and for those times whenever you’re swinging and skating dry flies hoping for a boil, increase the odds with Grillos Boilermaker Fly. Grillos Boilermaker Fly was designed for Washington steelhead and was designed by Andrew Grillos; however, this is a fly that’s bounds exceed Pacific Northwest steelhead and can be brought to any dry fly steelhead situation. Taking inspiration from the classic Green Butt Skunk Fly, Grillos Boilermaker is tied with a golden pheasant tail, green butt, silver-ribbed black body, and a large foam head that floats well and gives a perfect “V” motion when fished.
Grillos Boilermaker isn’t representative of any insect but rather a waking fly with an appearance that’s hot enough to draw strikes. A great fly for fishing large and wide rivers that steelhead call home, Grillos Boilermaker can be swung downstream or skated along the surface and is a fly that casts nice and easily. No matter what your preferred presentation is, this is a fly that’s known for drawing explosive boils, so be sure to hang on.
