Just what you need for those swarms of flying ants in the summer and fall, the Flying Ant Fly is an excellent addition to your terrestrial inventory. The Flying Ant Fly is tied to be a strong imitation of an ant with wings, and this fly has a segmented body of dubbing and thread, hackle legs, and hackle wings, and while it imitates flying ants and termites, it can also be fished as a general searching pattern from late spring into the fall.

A fly that's simple to fish, the Flying Ant will produce the best results when drifted with a drag-free drift anytime there's a swarm of ants or anytime you're prospecting around water crowded with vegetation. And although ants are so diverse and can range in size, you can usually get away with carrying this fly in sizes 12-16. From searching out brookies laying in a plunge pool to finding large brown trout in a smooth limestone stream, the Flying Ant is a fly that should never be forgotten at home.
