The Hair & Fur fly tying category is one of largest here at Trident. Hair and fur are included in the vast majority of flies. Are you tying an Elk Hair Caddis? What about a Dolly Llama? A Royal Wulff, Humpy, and tons of other popular flies all use some type of hair or fur. We carry a large selection for all of your fly tying needs from Rabbit Strips to Bucktail to Goat Hair and much more. Plus we have a variety of colors so you can create a pastel nymph or a neon streamer. Whether you’re tying a nymph, dry fly, or a streamer, we’ve got all of your Hair & Fur needs covered with one of the largest selections in the industry.
One of our most popular materials is Rabbit Fur. Rabbit fur can be used in a variety of tying scenarios but is most commonly used to give life to large streamers for predatory fish. If you like tying groovy streamers with bright colors, choose Hareline’s Groovy Bunny Strips. If you prefer a more muted streamer appearance or you’re tying a Sculpin pattern, choose Hareline’s Brown or Black or Olive Barred Magnum or Regular Rabbit Strips, especially for larger flies. If you need smaller, finer hair, choose Hareline Snowshoe Rabbit Feet to tie midges or emergers. We also carry Hareline’s full Hare’s Mask which allows anglers to use fur from the face of the rabbit for nymphs, dry flies, and more.
If you’re tying a dry fly, we carry a variety of hair that will help add thickness to an attractor or a Deer Hair Head to a big streamer. Spirit River makes a variety of hair that can be used to tie dry flies from their UV2 Coastal Deer Hair to their regular Deer Hair. These products come in little patches that can be cut to length and tied into any fly. Spirit River also makes Cashmere Goat Hair that can be used for streamers and other flies that require animal hair. Hareline also makes comparable Deer Hair but they also make Moose Hair for flies that require hair that’s more coarse, and Calf Tails for flies that require hare that’s coarse and colored.
We also carry Squirrel Tails which are a great material for tying nymphs that use small amounts of hair like the Squirrel Tail Nymph or a Caddis-Sedge. You can also use squirrel tail for classic Hair Wing streamer patterns. And, similar to the rabbit masks, Hareline makes a full Squirrel Skin for tyers who prefer to choose their hair directly off of the back of a full squirrel body. Regardless of whether you’re looking for rabbit, squirrel, deer, or elk hair, we’ve got the largest selection of hair and fur for all of your fly tying needs.
