Dubbing is a great way to add dimension to any fly. Whether you’re tying a buggy nymph, shiny streamer, or a full dry fly, dubbing is a great way to either add floating capabilities to your fly or to increase its fly-like appearance. Dubbing, like any other fly tying material, comes in different colors, styles, and sizes. We carry a large variety of dubbing from Spirit River to Hareline, Senyos to Fish-Skull. To use dubbing in your fly patterns, simply roll a bit of dubbing onto your thread and spread it out to create a ‘dubbing noodle’. After you form a dubbing noodle, wrap your thread onto the fly to create a full-bodied appearance. If you know you’re going to need a variety of colors, dubbing dispensers allow a tyer to purchase an array of different colors in one pack.

Spirit River has a variety of dubbing that’s made for any tying scenario. If you’re trying to tie a buggy-looking nymph (think stonefly for example), use the Spirit River Squirrel Blend Dubbing. If you’re tying a streamer and you want the head to have some flash, use the Spirit River UV2 Diamond Brite. Spirit River also makes a fine dubbing that’s ideal for dry flies and high-floating flies. The UV2 Fine and Dry Dubbing captures air and helps your fly stay on the surface or high in the water column. Spirit River also makes a dubbing that’s designed to be used when tying Scud and Shrimp patterns. The Spirit River UV2 Scud and Shrimp Dubbing has the perfect consistency for all of your tailwater patterns and will fool the trickiest trout.

Hareline also makes a variety of dubbing, dubbing dispensers, and pattern-specific dubbing. Hareline Ice Dub is one of the most popular dubbings we carry. This particular material is perfect for streamers and larger nymphs and creates a large fly profile with tons of strands and plenty of thickness. This isn’t a dry fly dubbing so the messier the better. Tying a Salmon or Steelhead fly? Choose Hareline STS Trilobal Salmon Trout Steelhead Dubbing for life-like tube flies, streamers, and more. Again, Hareline dubbing comes in a variety of pack sizes including dispensers for the tyer who knows he/she will use more than one color.

Flymen Fish-Skull also makes some great dubbing dispensers including a Laser Yarn Dubbing Dispenser. This dispenser is great for brightly colored streamers and hot spots on nymphs. Similarly, Fly Fish Food makes a signature dubbing blend that is versatile and comes in a variety of colors. Another brand worth mentioning is Senyos. Senyos Fusion Dub is a neon dubbing that’s great for tying egg patterns or bright streamers. Senyo’s Shaggy Dub is a great, thick, dubbing-like material that mixes well with other dubbings or can be tied into a fly on its own.

Whether you’re partial to Hareline or Spirit River, we’ve got all the top dubbing brands for whatever dubbing you need at the vise. We also have a variety of colors, sizes, and types for streamers, nymphs, and dry flies. Like all of our fly tying materials, our dubbing comes with FREE SHIPPING and a price match guarantee.
