Hardy Jet Fly Rod Reviews

Light and Accurate Review by Chuck

I would agree with all the reviewers on this rod. After casting it in the yard and fishing it a few times I would say that it is a medium/medium fast action rod. Very light swing weight with a soft tip and flex down to mid section of the rod. I've paired it with rio gold line matching the rod weight. I don't think it needs GPX or a half-weighted line. I have been impressed with the accuracy and power at short distances. It handles nymphs just fine and if you aren't casting 60'+ then it is an excellent rod for the job.
High Quality, Great Price, Great Tempo Review by JR

I bought the 9' 5 weight because I have a Hardy Zenith and love it. This rod is finished beautifully, with excellent cork and beautiful rod seat. Very light weight, it flexes from tip through center - definitely not a fast tip-flex rod. It does have backbone, but performs best for short and mid-distance (up to 40 feet) casts with small flies. A fabulous rod for blue-bird days and precision casting with dries. The casting tempo will relax you and give you confidence and peace. Effortless.
Perfect Dry Fly and Small Nymphs Review by Joe

Purchased the 9ft 5wt last year with the intentions of it being my "all around" trout rod...and it is just that.

I primarily fish smaller/medium sized streams, often with heavy brush and trees outlining the stream.

I know Hardy classifies it as a "Fast" rod, but I would disagree. I do not have a very powerful cast and the rods bends quite a bit...I think the rod is perfect for an angler with a slower cast

- it is extremely light in hand and casts effortlessly. It throws all dries and lighter nymphs with grace
- pinpoint accuracy from 5-50 feet
- "softer" rod so it also roll casts with relative ease

- since rod bends a bit, it is a bit sloppy casting heavy streamers and weighted nymphs

- you have to work to throw long (55+)...i realize that most fish are caught within 30 ft., but in this day of "driving for show" and 100 ft casts, this is not that rod

All in all, I love the rod...it is a great fit for me. I don't throw big/heavy flies often and typically only cast to fish 10-30 ft away.

I am not sure this rod (5 wt) would be a great fit for a very fast/powerful caster or someone who often throws heavy/large flies.
Excellent casting rod for small to mid-sized streams Review by Bill

I recently used a Jet 4wt rod on some local streams ranging from small to mid-sized (by eastern standards). The rod is smooth, casts well and helps with accuracy on short to mid-range casts. Excellent for roll cast in a crowded enviornment.
