Fishing is easy when trout are eating large flies. When trout get picky and start feeding on smaller insects, time on the water can be frustrating. Midges are great flies for technical trout water when fish are picky or the water temperatures are cold. Many anglers fish midge patterns in the winter when bug life is minimal but trout still have to feed. They’re also a good bet for crystal clear water when visibility is high and fish have seen a lot of angling pressure. Virtually every river system has small flies or midges so it’s definitely worthwhile to include a solid collection in any fly box.

We have a thorough selection of dry fly midges for those picky rising trout that don’t want to eat a larger fly pattern. One of the most popular dry fly midges is the Griffith’s Gnat Dry Fly. The Griffith’s Gnat is a traditional pattern that features a buggy appearance and a midge-like profile to encourage a rising fish to eat every time. Similarly, if there are spinners on the water, one of the most popular small spinner patterns is the Rusty Spinner. If you see Flav spinners, choose the Flav Spinner Fly to fool a hungry fish. For Tricos, throw the Chubby Trico Spinner Fly. The WD-40 and WD-50 are great patterns to have in your fly box, too, for when fish are eating emerger midges just under the surface.

For all you nymphing addicts out there, we have a large variety of subsurface midges, too. Midges like the Zebra Midge Fly are great attractor patterns an imitate a variety of small nymphal midges. We have a few different styles of the classic Zebra Midge including a Two-Tone Zebra Midge, a Tungsten Zebra Midge, and a Thin Zebra Midge. These flies are great for Euro-nymphing and for tight line nymphing.

If you’re looking for Chironomids, we’ve got plenty of those, too. Choose the Ice Cream Cone Chironomid Fly when you’re trying to quickly sink a midge nymph into a fish’s feeding zone. If you’re trying to fish closer to the surface, fish the Jujubee Midge Fly or the Jujubee Midge Flash Fly. If you’re fishing tight-line style, the Tungsten Juju Baetis Fly is a stellar pattern with UV epoxy to create a heavy, durable nymph for technical trout fishing.

We also have a few midge patterns that can be fished just below the surface for trout that are eating emergers. Juju Emerger fly is a great little midge pattern that can be fished as a wet fly on the swing or as a still emerger pattern/cripple. This pattern comes in a variety of sizes and colors, like all of our midge flies.

Regardless of which midge pattern you’re looking for, we’ve got plenty to choose from. Fill up your box with midges to fool those wary trout next time you’re on the water. The best part? All flies SHIP FOR FREE and come with a Price Match Guarantee. Shop Now!
