Euro Nymphing is a highly productive strategy for catching trout in rivers and streams. Euro Nymphing, or tight line nymphing, is known for its use in competition fly fishing but has more recently moved to a strategy used by many serious trout anglers around the world. Euro Nymphing combines unique rod tapers and heavy flies to keep the angler in constant contact with his/her flies. It allows anglers to nymph without using an indicator and to get flies into the feeding zone faster and to keep them there longer. Rods are usually longer for improved reach and different fly lines are used. While rods and lines are important, however, perhaps even more important is choosing the right flies.

Our Euro Nymphing & Jig Fly category features heavily weighted flies that are ideal for this style of fly fishing. Most of these flies feature a bead head and/or a jig hook to quickly sink the fly into the feeding zone of the fish for increased success on the water. These flies come in a variety of patterns including mayflies, caddis, attractor nymphs, stoneflies, and more. One of the most popular attractor nymphs, the Prince Nymph, can be tied in a variety of styles and is a great choice for prospecting new water with a Euro Nymph rod. We carry multiple styles of the fly including a Tungsten Bead Prince Nymph, Tungsten Bead Flash Prince, and a Jigged Tungsten Prince Nymph. These flies work well as point flies and fool wary trout when it’s hard to determine which bugs are in the water.

Another popular mayfly attractor nymph is the Pheasant Tail. The Tungsten Pheasant Tail Nymph, Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail, Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tail, and Flashback Pheasant Tail are all great options when tight line nymphing for trout. These patterns imitate a variety of small mayflies and are available in a multitude of different sizes for all trout fishing scenarios.

Caddis is another popular hatch on many trout rivers across the US. We have a few different Caddis nymphs including the Tungsten Bead Czech Caddis and the Jigged Caddis Pupa. These flies imitate the nymphal stage of the Caddis Fly and are tied on a barbless hook and a jig hook for maximum efficiency on any Euro Nymph rig. Both flies have a segmented body for a lifelike imitation that fools hungry fish in a variety of scenarios.

Stoneflies are also popular in the nymphing world. These larger bugs offer a large meal to feeding trout and are easily visible in the water in all conditions, even when the water is high and off-color. Our selection includes the Tungsten Rolling Stone, Jigged Rubberlegs Nymph, Tungsten 20 Incher Stone Jig, Tungsten Jigged Hare’s Ear, and Gold Ribbed Tungsten Hare’s Ear. These flies imitate a variety of Stoneflies from a black stone to a golden stone. If you’re fishing a large western freestone river, these flies are a great bet.

That’s part of the selection but we have many more Euro Nymphing flies that are useful in a multitude of freshwater angling situations. From the Tungsten Mopsicle to the Bead Head Tailwater Sowbug Jig, there’s something for every angler in this fly category. If you’re an avid nymph fisherman, this category is for you.
