The Flashtail Mini Egg really isn’t a fly but it works well under an indicator to fool Steelhead, Salmon, Trout, and more. When anadromous fish enter the river to spawn, they drop eggs that are full of protein and nutrients. Other fish in the river take note and in places like Alaska, Trout, Char, and other fish feed ravenously on eggs to fatten up for the winter months. Similarly, Steelhead sustain themselves when they’re in the river on small, protein-filled meals including eggs. This is a great pattern for the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, parts of the US west, and beyond. This egg features a simple yarn body with a flash tail to catch the attention of a feeding fish and to imitate an egg at the end of its cycle.
