Crystal Skin is an adhesive-backed, pliable, “gummy” material that is both versatile and very effective. It has a very lifelike sheen and has many different color options so you can perfectly match the prey you’re trying to imitate. The skin is designed like tape with a sticky side and a non-sticky foil side. Use your scissors to cut into the shape you want and then simply apply it to your fly. There are endless options for creativity with this material, there’s really no wrong way to use it. It can be cut, folded, layered over different colors of itself, and stretched. All of these methods can be combined together to create the exact fly you want.
Uses: Use Crystal Skin for many popular baitfish, shrimp, and crab patterns. The stretchy, gummy nature of the skin is great for creating the backs of insects like scuds and caddis.
Comparisons: This material is very similar to Sili skin and the two are probably interchangeable in most situations.
Example flies: Gummy Minnow, Ooey Gooey Grub, and Sili Skin Caddis.
