A fly created to catch salmonids in Alaska, the Dolly Llama Streamer is packed with movement and has caught everything from large steelhead, wild trout, and warm water fish like bass and pike. First tied over a decade ago, the Dolly Llama takes inspiration from the Double Bunny and conehead leech patterns and utilizes a rabbit strip body, Lateral Scale flash, heavy cone, and is tied with a trailer hook that's sized perfectly to prevent fish mortality. A deadly combination of just the right materials, this streamer moves effortlessly in the water and can be fished as a searching pattern, but it also does very well when used to mimic baitfish and leeches.
With a carefully considered construction, the Dolly Llama is a streamer that you can fish a number of ways, from casting it across the river and swinging it down and across, quickly retrieving it through a freshly melted lake or just the classic upstream strip, this fly does a great job at fooling predatory fish. The Dolly Llama is tied in attractor colors and more realistic shades, with a few of the more common colors being all white, black over white, and olive over white. From the dead of winter through late fall, the Dolly Llama is a fly that will help you track down those carnivorous fish.
