Love 'em or hate 'em, Tricos are a tiny mayfly that causes trout to feed anywhere they hatch. While they're one of the tiniest mayflies around, they hatch in great abundance from early July into late October, depending on the waterway. And although Tricos hatch in such great numbers, their spinner fall is usually what creates the most feeding activity, and the Chubby Trico Spinner Flyis a perfect imitation for these little mayflies. Tied in sizes 20-24, the Chubby Trico is a spinner pattern with a realistic profile that imitates the bulky thorax that most Tricos have, and its synthetic spent wings allow it to float right on the water's surface.

Because the Chubby Trico is a direct imitation of a Trico spinner, this is a fly that you'll only want to fish whenever you see swarms of Tricos mating and waiting to fall onto the water's surface. Usually an early to mid-morning event, the Chubby Trico is a fly that you'll want to fish with a dead drift and cast over rising trout. Most commonly fished in sizes 22-24, the Chubby Trico is a fly that should be in every angler's summer fly box, whether you're on the Madison River or an east coast limestone stream.
