Chironomids are a small Stillwater bug that trout key in on during various times of the year. Similar to river-borne bugs with a life cycle and hatch cycle, Chironomids also go through a nymphal stage and hatch into an adult ‘dry fly’. The nymphs are small, thin, and extremely low-profile, similar to midges in a river. The Chiron Bomber is a fly that imitates the nymphal stage of a Chironomid and should be fished under an indicator or with a slow strip method on lakes and ponds. These flies feature a bead head and a wire-ribbed thread body (very similar to a Zebra Midge) on a long shank hook. Chironomids are popular Stillwater flies across the country and around the world.
