Fit and Finish

The Cross SW boasts classic Loop fit and finish. A full-wells grip made of high-grade cork, the trademark triangular three-pin Loop reel seat with an exposed skeletonized rod blank and a dark blue Loop blank perpetuate quiet Loop craftsmanship. The SW blank shows off an aesthetically pleasing smoke matte finish. Loop provides alignment dots and titanium stripping and snake guides to add easy functionality to a real work of art. Weight

The swing weight of the Cross SW is slightly heavier than other comparable saltwater fly rods at 89.3 gm2. The full rod (8wt) weighs in at 4.53 ounces.

Distance

A perfect rod for flats casting up to 60 feet. The fast-action model makes more sense if you plan on routinely making 80-100 foot casts.

Accuracy

The medium-fast Cross SW is incredibly accurate at 40 feet; the soft rod tip allows a delicate presentation perfect for close bonefish on the flats. An equally as accurate presentation is unattainable at close range with the fast-action model. The SW softens even more past 40 feet and the accuracy slightly improves from 40-60 feet. The medium-fast model loses power from 60-80 feet, a range in which the faster-action model performs more accurately.

Flex and Feel

Loop’s signature Cross Core Technology System combines nano resin and high tensile carbon for effortless flex and feel. The medium-fast SW series promotes a quick casting stroke and holds energy in the middle of the rod rather than encouraging a tip-centered cast like the stiff, fast-action SW. The medium-fast SW is more caster-friendly at short-medium distances, in high onshore winds or whenever forceful power is required and has a more versatile overall semblance.

Line Choice

I really enjoyed SA Bonefish and I think any of the lighter lines out there, including Rio Bonefish, would also work well.

The Cross SW encourages pinpoint accuracy, artful delicacy, and (when needed) fast-action power to afford any angler the ability to attack an array of saltwater fly fishing opportunities. While the medium-fast rod probably isn’t your best bet when making casts beyond 80 feet, if you’re looking for a bread-and-butter rod for the full spectrum of flats fishing applications, the medium-fast Loop Cross SW may just be the one for you.
