Bead: Harelin e Plummeting Tungsten Bead (7/64, Copper)

Thread: UTC 70D Ultra Thread (Olive)

Body: Hareline Hollow Tubing (Standard, Olive)

Hey Carl, I teach fly tying to mostly novices, and older fly fishermen shall we say, who have never used a dubbing loop and don’t have one. My question is , Why can’t this final step be done with a simple dubbing? I think the result would be close enough. Maybe tease out the fibers of the hares ear dubbing a bit. My tying mentor always said keep it simple.

  Hi Bill, You make a great point, you could certainly just use a dubbing noodle on the thread and acheive a similar result. Thanks for your comment!

  You can do whatever you want. Dubbing loop or no dubbing loop as longs as you use the “less is more concept” the fish ain’t gonna know the difference. I’d do a split thread dubbing loop myself if I was tying that fly in size 16 or smaller.
