Open/Closed: 

Open (with exceptions) - Check back for State-by-State breakdown.

Quarantine?

Some states have a mandatory quarantine for visitors but most of the country is opening up, especially the western states. 

Hotels:

Hotels are open in all states that don’t have a mandatory quarantine. Additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in effect. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are open and abiding by mandatory coronavirus safety regulations (6-feet, takeout, curbside pickup, delivery). 

Here’s what the Government says…

Travel in the US

Outlook:

If you’re comfortable abiding by the CDC’s recommendations for flight travel in the US, most of the western part of the country is open to fishing. Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Louisiana, and other states are open and fishing. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Alaska

Open/Closed: 

Open. Must produce negative PCR test results for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to departure to AK. 

Quarantine?

None with negative test results. 

Hotels:

Hotels are open. Additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in effect. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are open and abiding by mandatory coronavirus safety regulations (6-feet, takeout, curbside pickup, delivery).

Travel Information for Anchorage

Outlook:

Alaska’s outlook is a good one. Many lodges are operating at this time and most of them plan on having a full season (although there are some exceptions). It’s a great time to book for the 2020 and 2021 season. 

Recommendation:

Safe to book. 


Montana

Open/Closed: 

Open, many lodges/guides are open/fishing. 

Quarantine?

Travel quarantine for non-work-related arrivals expired June 1. 

Hotels:

Open. Additional safety and sanitation measures are in effect. 

Restaurants:

Open. Additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in place.

Travel to Montana

Outlook:

The outlook for the US west and Montana looks good. Montana is currently in Phase 2 of reopening and business/restaurants/hotels/rivers are open. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Wyoming

Open/Closed: 

Open to travel, tourism, and fishing.

Quarantine?

No quarantine currently required. 

Hotels:

Open with proper sanitation measures in place. 

Restaurants:

Open.

COVID-19 Information for Wyoming

Outlook:

Wyoming’s outlook is a good one. As of June 15, outdoor and indoor gatherings of up to 250 people are permitted. Many guides/lodges are up and running.

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Idaho

Open/Closed: 

Open to fishing, travel, tourism. 

Quarantine?

No quarantine currently in place. 

Hotels:

Hotels are open and operating in Idaho.

Restaurants:

Open and operating with proper sanitation measures in place.

Outlook:

The current outlook for Idaho is much like Wyoming and Montana. The state is open and businesses are up and running. Guides/lodges are operating and people are out fishing/traveling. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


New York State

Open/Closed: 

Open (travel from some states to NY requires a quarantine).

Quarantine?

No mandatory quarantine at this time (some exceptions).

Hotels:

Open with proper cleaning/disinfecting measures in place. 

Restaurants:

Outdoor dining at restaurants is permitted.

COVID-19 Resources for Travelers in NY

Outlook:

The outlook for upstate NY and other more rural areas is a good one. The city still has some restrictive measures in place so stick to the coast and upstate. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Florida

Open/Closed: 

Most of Florida is open to tourism and travel including the Florida Keys and Miami. Travel from some states to Florida requires a 14-day quarantine.

Quarantine?

None (except travelers coming from areas with substantial community spread).

Hotels:

Hotels are open in a limited capacity with proper sanitation measures in effect. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are also open in a limited capacity.

Visit Florida Travel Information

Outlook:

The outlook is good as Florida begins its reopening. Certain parts of the state are still closed (including big theme parks) but there are a lot of accessible fisheries that are open at this time. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Colorado

Open/Closed: 

Open to tourism and travel. 

Quarantine?

None in place.

Hotels:

A range of lodging offerings are available statewide. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are open to dine-in, takeout, and outdoor dining.

Travel and Tourism in Colorado

Outlook:

Colorado’s outlook is great. All airports are open and there are plenty of options for hotels, dining, and fishing. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish.


Louisiana

Open/Closed: 

Open to dining, lodging, and travel, particularly along the coast. 

Quarantine?

None required (unless traveling from a state with substantial community spread).

Hotels:

Hotels are open in a limited capacity. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are also open in a limited capacity with proper sanitation measures in effect. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Louisiana Travel Resources

Outlook:

While Louisiana has delayed phase 3 of their reopening plan due to a spike in the number of cases since phase 2, you can still travel to fish. People are definitely down there fishing already but it may be worth waiting a few weeks to see how cases develop in the state. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Pennsylvania

Open/Closed: 

Open to travel, tourism, and fishing. 

Quarantine?

None (although there's a 'recommended quarantine' for travelers from a group of high-risk states).

Hotels:

Hotels in most counties are open in a limited capacity with proper sanitation measures in effect.

Restaurants:

Restaurants are open with a mix of dine-in and outdoor dining available. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Northeastern COVID-19 Restrictions

Outlook:

The outlook for PA, like many other states in the northeast, looks like a good one. Fishing is heating up throughout the state and hotels, restaurants, etc. are open. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Utah

Open/Closed: 

Open to travel and tourism. Most state and national parks are open. Non-essential travel isn’t recommended in big cities.

Quarantine?

None.

Hotels:

Are open in most areas with proper sanitation measures in effect.

Restaurants:

Restaurants are also open in most areas of the state. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Utah Travel Restrictions

Outlook:

Utah’s outlook is a good one. Most of Utah is marked as either low-risk or new normal which means travel and fishing is encouraged. 

Recommendation:

Go and fish. 


Canada

Open/Closed: 

Closed to non-essential travel.

Quarantine?

Mandatory 14-day quarantine. 

Hotels:

Hotels for essential personnel only. 

Restaurants:

Some restaurants are starting to open with sufficient distancing measures in place. Restaurant status differs by province/territory.

Who can travel to Canada (and other resources)

Outlook:

Canada’s outlook is bleak. The country has committed to protecting the border and keeping non-essential personnel from entering the country. They will reevaluate their restrictions at the end of June but are likely to extend the closure. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Mexico

Open/Closed:

Borders are closed to non-essential travel although airports are open.

Quarantine?

Yes, dependent on the city. 

Hotels:

Hotels are starting to open throughout Mexico. Openings are dependent on the region. Lodges have begun opening.

Restaurants:

Restaurants are starting to open throughout Mexico. Openings are dependent on the region.

Mexico Travel Restrictions

Outlook:

The outlook is promising for Mexico. As always, check with the individual lodge you plan on visiting.

Recommendation:

Book with caution. 


Belize

Open/Closed:

Closed to non-essential travel (scheduled to open August 15).

Quarantine?

Yes, dependent on the city. 

Hotels:

Many hotels are open and lodges are scheduled to start reopening mid-August.

Restaurants:

Restaurants are open.

Belize Travel Restrictions

Outlook:

The outlook for Belize looks good. The country is committed to opening August 15 and hopefully, lodges will open shortly after that. We're cautiously optimistic that Belize will be open and fishing soon.

Recommendation:

Book with caution. 


Bahamas

Open/Closed:

Borders reopened to travelers on July 1.

Quarantine?

No quarantine in effect at the moment. 

Hotels:

Hotels are open with proper sanitation measures in effect.

Restaurants:

Open with proper distancing measures. 

Here’s what the Government says…

COVID-19 Information for The Bahamas

Outlook:

The outlook for the Bahamas is cautiously optimistic. The government has a 5-phase reopening plan in motion and has agreed to open the Islands to tourism from July 1.

Recommendation:

OK to book. 


Argentina

Open/Closed:

Closed to all foreigners until (at least) July 17. All Domestic and International commercial flights banned until September 1. Argentina has imposed one of the strictest travel bans in the Americas.

Quarantine?

Mandatory 14-day quarantine. 

Hotels:

Smaller provinces have been allowed to ease business restrictions although the larger cities are still in lockdown. 

Restaurants:

Restaurants are largely closed.

Traveling to Argentina

Outlook:

Luckily it’s the winter season in Argentina so we have a little while before the 2020-2021 fishing season. That being said, Argentina has shown that they’re willing to be tough on travelers and foreigners so they may stay closed. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Chile

Open/Closed:

Closed, nationwide curfew requirements. 

Quarantine?

Yes, depending on the city. 14-day quarantine. 

Hotels:

Mostly closed.

Restaurants:

Mostly closed.

COVID-19 Information for Chile

Outlook:

Similar to Argentina, Chile has enacted some pretty strict travel restrictions that will likely be in place for a while. We’re hoping they’ll open up for the 2020-2021 fishing season but that remains to be seen. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Bolivia

Open/Closed:

Closed, national quarantine measures in place, curfew in place, international flights suspended, borders closed.

Quarantine?

Yes, nation-wide quarantine/curfew. 

Hotels:

Closed.

Restaurants:

Closed.

COVID-19 Information for Bolivia

Outlook:

Bolivia’s outlook is bleak. Quarantine and travel restrictions are likely to be extended into the fall similar to other destinations in South America. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Brazil 

Open/Closed:

Closed to non-essential travel. Foreigners are banned from entering the country. “Brazil continues to experience the widespread transmission of COVID-19” as of June 5 according to the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Brazil.

Quarantine?

Yes, depending on the region. 

Hotels:

Some regions are beginning to reopen. 

Restaurants:

Some regions are beginning to reopen. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Health Alerts and Messages for Travel to Brazil

Outlook:

Brazil is likely to extend the international travel ban like other countries in South America. Some regions were slow to shut down in Brazil and the virus is continuing to spread throughout the country. Travel likely won’t be safe until late 2020/early 2021. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book.


Christmas Island

Open/Closed:

Closed until further notice. 

Quarantine?

Self-isolate for 14-days. 

Hotels:

No lodges/hotels are open to international travel at this time. 

Restaurants:

No restaurants are open to international travelers at this time. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Kiribati Travel Restrictions

Outlook:

Kiribati (Christmas Island) doesn’t have any cases of COVID-19 at this time and they’re trying to keep it that way. The island will likely remain closed for the time being. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Seychelles

Open/Closed:

Closed. “Any passenger arriving from any country (except returning Seychellois citizens) will not be allowed to enter the Seychelles.” 

Quarantine?

Obligatory 14-day quarantine. 

Hotels:

No hotels are open at this time. 

Restaurants:

Open for Seychellois citizens only.

Here’s what the Government says…

Seychelles COVID-19 Information

Outlook:

The Seychelles will likely remain closed for the summer, proceed with caution. 

Recommendation:

Wait to book. 


Iceland

Open/Closed:

Closed (open to 14 countries not including the US).

Quarantine?

Travelers will be given a free COVID-19 test upon arrival or can choose to quarantine for two weeks.

Hotels:

Hotels and lodges will be open on a limited-capacity basis starting June 15 with sufficient distancing and sanitation protocols in place.  

Restaurants:

Icelandic restaurants are open with sufficient distancing and sanitation protocols in place. 

Here’s what the Government says…

Iceland and COVID-19

Outlook:

Iceland’s outlook looks good. We’re remaining cautiously optimistic about a reopening and lodges reopening shortly after. Keep an eye out for airlines flying to Iceland from the US… this will be a solid indication of open travel.

Recommendation:

OK to book. 


Russia

Open/Closed:

Closed until further notice.

Quarantine?

14-day quarantine depending on the region. 

Hotels:

Open in a limited capacity. Reopening by region. 

Restaurants:

Open in a limited capacity. Reopening by region.

Outlook:

While Russia is starting to reopen, the fishing outlook is uncertain at this time. Contact individual lodges/programs to get their input on reopening plans for individual regions/locations.

Mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Outlook:

While it is winter in New Zealand, future travel reopenings are uncertain. That being said, as of now, New Zealand has 0 active cases. Although we're remaining cautiously optimistic about the 2020-2021 New Zealand fishing season, New Zealand does have strict border/tourism policies.
