A twist on the classic Birds Nest Nymph, the Birds Nest Bead Head Fly is an excellent fly whether you are looking to imitate caddis pupae or just need a buggy searching pattern that always gets the job done. The original Birds Nest Nymph was designed by Cal Bird in 1959 in the state of California in order to imitate caddis pupae, and he quickly found success with the flys recipe consisting of wood duck flank feathers and australian opossum dubbing. The Birds Nest Bead Head Fly takes this exact platform and adds a bead to make for fast sinking and just a bit of flash.

The Birds Nest Bead Head Fly is a great searching pattern, and while it was originally created for matching caddis pupae, it is a fly that you can use to match a variety of insects like cranefly larvae, caddis larvae, and even some smaller stonefly species. The Birds Nest Bead Head Fly is also a pattern that can be fished all year long in almost any water system. Easy to fish, the Birds Nest Bead Head Fly does best under an indicator, worked into a multi-fly setup, or just on a tight line. From spring caddis hatches to winter pocket nymphing, this fly does it all.
