Drawing inspiration from Cliff Zug’s original Zug Bug Nymph--a fly created in the 1930s that still catches fish today--the Bead Head Zug Bug Fly is a solid nymph whether you’re blindly prospecting riffles or looking to imitate things like immature caddis and mayflies. A fly that’s full of natural flash, the Bead Head Zug Bug Fly is tied with a peacock swordtail, ribbed peacock herl body, brown hackle fibers for legs, and has a bead head. The Bead Head Zug Bug Fly is one of those rare nymphs that functions as an attractor pattern or as an imitation for things like slate drake nymphs and caddis larvae (which is what the original Zug Bug was tied to imitate).

The Bead Head Zug Bug Fly is a nymph that you can turn to no matter what season you’re in, and it’s a fly that works especially well as a part of a multi-nymph rig. Dead drift it through pocket water, run it through pools, or even slowly crawl it along the bottom, the Bead Head Zug Bug is a versatile nymph that produces in almost any environment you take it.
