One of those nymphs that just plain works, the Bead Head Squirrel Nymph Fly is a variation of Dave Whitlock's popular Squirrel Nymph. Taking the body of Dave's Squirrel Nymph and adding a bead, this fly has the extra weight to make it sink quickly, and its construction of mostly squirrel fur and hen hackle gives it a buggy appearance that fish seem to love. Whether you're looking for that do-it-all attractor pattern or want to more closely imitate things like mayfly nymphs, cranefly larvae, or even emerging caddis pupae, the Bead Head Squirrel Nymph is one that you can turn to with confidence. 

The Bead Head Squirrel Nymph can be fished in still or moving water and should be fished like most other nymphs, either dead drifted or slowly crawled along the bottom in slow to stillwater. Popular in a range of sizes depending on the forage in your water, the Bead Head Squirrel Nymph is most commonly fished in sizes 12-16 and is a fly that you can fish year-round. One of Dave's go-to flies, the Bead Head Squirrel Nymph is one that will catch everything from picky trout to enthusiastic panfish.
