Not quite a fly that resembles a lightning bug but one that delivers a ton of flash, the Bead Head Lightning Bug Fly is an effective attractor nymph that you can bring everywhere. Designed in Kirkland, Washington by Larry Graham in the year 1992, the Bead Head Lightning Bug Fly has quickly gained popularity as an ultra-effective attractor. Slightly resembling a variety of aquatic insects ranging from mayfly nymphs to small midges, the Bead Head Lightning Bug doesn’t resemble one specific thing, but it does a great job at fooling trout.
Tied with a pheasant tail, ribbed flash body, dubbed thorax, and bead head, this fly sinks quickly and makes for an excellent addition to a multi-nymph rig. Ready to fish any day of the year, the Bead Head Lightning Bug Fly is a great choice whether you’re on a small freestone stream or a western tailwater. Dead drift it under an indicator or fish it on a tight line, you can count on the Bead Head Lightning Bug Fly to light up those days on the water.
