A favorite variation of Frank Sawyer’s famous Pheasant Tail Nymph, the Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tail is the perfect fly for those days when the water is deep and you need a little extra flash. Adopting some of the classic traits of the Pheasant Tail Nymph like a ribbed pheasant tail body and peacock thorax, The Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tail offers a solid imitation of most mayfly nymphs ranging in size 12 all the way down to 20, and the addition of a flashback wingcase gives a little shimmer but also does a fine job at representing the tiny bubble of air that most emerging nymphs have in their wingcase. 

The Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tail is a great fly to use as a searching nymph just about any time of the year, but its effectiveness doesn’t stop there, as a flashback wingcase turns this nymph into a great choice whenever mayflies are emerging in the spring, summer, and fall--simply match the size to the naturals and you should be in a good spot.
