Combining solid ingenuity with just the right mix of materials, the Balanced Swim Leech Fly is a slick pattern that works wonders in stillwater situations. Tied to be perfectly balanced in the water, this fly swims on a level, flat plane just like real leeches, and its “balanced” design allows you to fish it underneath of an indicator and work a very slow but effective retrieve. As its name implies, the Balanced Swim Leech Fly is a great representation for leeches, but if you’re in a jam and need a quick damsel or dragonfly nymph, the Balanced Leech can get the job done too.

A great stillwater pattern to use anywhere there’s leeches and the water’s not frozen, the Balanced Leech can be stripped back to shore or used in a multi-fly setup, just be sure to keep the Balanced Swim Leech as the point fly or else you’ll find that the dropper compromises its “balanced” feature and creates a sag. Fish it on a floating, intermediate, or full sink line, the Balanced Swim Leech is a necessary fly to any stillwater box.
