Tied by Umpqua Feather Merchants.

A fly designed for catching one of the toughest fish on the flats, the Avalon Permit Fly puts the odds in your favor whenever you’re in pursuit of those saltwater “yellow bellies.” Originally tied by Mauro Ginevri in the early 2000s for catching Permit in Cuba, the Avalon Permit Fly has since caught plenty of Permit as well as bonefish, tarpon, snapper, and other tropical predators. The Avalon Permit Fly is one that you can fish as a general searching pattern and it works well to give both a crab and even a shrimp imitation. The Avalon Permit Fly is tied in a slightly unorthodox manner and features rubber legs and flash, claws tied “delta” style, a pearl Diamond Braid shellback, dumbbell eyes, and beaded keel that provides an enticing rattle. This construction ensures that your fly always rides with the hook up while maximizing the lifelike motion needed to fool these picky fish.

A great choice when wading flats or fishing off of a skiff, the Avalon Permit Fly has inherent motion whether it’s resting in the water or being stripped, and this is a fly that benefits from the occasional pause in its retrieve. Whether you’re looking to catch your first permit or need a fly that will lead you to a Grand Slam, the Avalon Permit Fly is sure to leave you impressed.
