Whether it’s a chromed-out steelhead or fresh searun cutthroat, there’s simply nothing better than watching an anadromous fish crush a topwater fly, and Ahrex has everything that you need for those exciting takes with their AHR418 Bomber Hooks. Built for tying Bombers, Wakers, and other large dry fly patterns, this hook has a wide gap and tapered loop eye that combine to give excellent hooking abilities while providing a clean look to your patterns. Crafted in sizes 1/0 through 6, this style of hook has just the right size no matter how big the fish you’re chasing is.
Uses
As its name implies, Ahrex’s AHR418 Bomber Hook was built with Bomber-style dry flies in mind. However, it’s a hook that you can rely on for tying just about any type of large dry fly for anadromous fish and it can also be used when tying super-sized dry flies for rising fish in freshwater situations.
Comparisons
Daiichi has made another popular Bomber hook with their 2117 Van Klinken Bomber Hook. This hook has a similar construction and can be used to tie the same style of flies, but it has a standard Limerick bend instead of the wider gap on Ahrex’s AHR418 Hook. Also, the 2117 Van Klinken Hook has a standard eye that doesn’t have the elegant appearance of Ahrex’s version.
