The Sage Response fly rod builds on the proven and effective technology of the Flight series. It improves on these once popular rods with an advanced, superior taper and higher modulus construction. The result is a fast action fly rod that's smooth to cast, highly responsive and offers superb precision in all waters. This is a rod that follows your lead, rather than the other way around!
The chestnut shaft color looks fantastic, but the superior casting feel is what really makes this rod stand out. The Sage Response fly rod series is designed to suit nearly all casting styles, and its proven technology results in a highly responsive rod with great line feel.
Other features of the Sage Response fly rod include gold and black tip wraps, a ceramic stripper guide and hard chrome snake guides. Freshwater weights come with a Rosewood insert, aluminum reel seat and a half wells grip. Saltwater weights are built with an all aluminum reel seat, full-wells grip and fighting butt.
The Sage Response fly rod is available with line weights ranging from 3 to 12, and comes in a number of model variations. Like all Sage rods, the Response is covered by the company's limited lifetime warranty. The series is also manufactured in the US, and comes with a Cordura tube.

Sage Response Fly Rod Reviews
Too expensive for what it is. Review by David
The 8'6" 5 weight version of this rod is very solid. It does everything for me I ask a 5 weight to do. It can cast delicate dry flies, nymph heavy rigs and handle streamers. However, I think this rod is too expensive for what Sage is offering. With this rod, Sage is selling it's name more than anything. It's their bottom line option and $395 is hardly cheap for a bottom line fly rod when St. Croix's top-of-the-line Legend Elite costs $420. And it's significantly lighter and has a better warranty.
Basically, if you want the Sage name without buying a high end model, this is a decent option. Personally, I would look to other competitors.
Pretty good buy Review by Will
4 1/2 stars for sure. I usually rate tough on fly rods as I feel differently towards multiple types of weights, actions and handles but I think this is a dream trout rod for everyone. Having fished with it a great number of times, I know that it performs well in all conditions, whether it's punching a dry fly through downstream winds into pocket water or pushing that 60 foot cast 9 inches off the banks. The rod gives you lots of control over the fish but also let you feel and enjoy the fight. The durability is good as I have never experienced problems myself. Overall I would consider this rod a great buy
more than decent rod Review by Morris
I have the Response in the 8' 6", 5wt model. The rod is a really nice all around trout stick that handles dries, nymphs, and streamers. I prefer a fast action and the Response definitely has that. It's not a cannon by any means but it has a light, crisp and lively feel to it while casting and has enough oomph to get a fly out to 80 ft if you need to. This has since has become my backup rod and continue to use it fishing all over my Colorado waters. I will say that the reel seat became loose and I had to re-epoxy it which wasn't a big deal. Not sure that this is a common issue with this rod, but I know that Sage has a solid warranty. If you're looking for a price friendly trout rod, I would really recommend the Response.
