Rio GripShooter Fly Line

New for 2014. A hard nylon shooting line with a unique handling section - the best choice for distance RIO's new GripShooter is based on the very popular SlickShooter, but has a thick, coated handling section that makes it very easy to grip in cold conditions. The thin nylon shooting line gives casters maximum distance, is light enough to hold off the water at range and allows anglers great control of their head and fly far out in the swing. A neat 8" welded loop at the front end allows for fast and efficient head changes. Thick, highly visible handling section for grip, durability and visibility

Rio GripShooter Fly Line Reviews

My Favorite Shooting Lines Review by Brian

I've converted all my rigs first away from traditional coated running lines, to mono lines, then upon discovering GripShooters, I've re-lined all my setups from 5wt switches up to the 10wt full speys with GripShooters.

Excellent handling and indication, zero to none memory coil, picks up off the water very cleanly without drag, adds easily 20' to every cast, saves space on the spool to either have more backing or down-size the reel for weight reduction.

Nice color combo transitions.
I have all the sizes in use, but I tend to prefer the 44lb for anything over 6wt spey.

I never get tired of feeling the head pull the shooting line taught to slap the reel at the apex of each cast.

Cheaper and in my tested opinion, better than the connect core stuff.

I originally wanted the newer connect core stuff. However, I find this shoots far. The handling section is perfect. It gives you both a better grip and a perfect indicator of how much line is out. (I.e. if you want to rock a 4' overhang on the cast, you know it looking at the rod tip or at the stripping hand.) You really can hold onto the line no problem in the cold of winter, gloves or bare hand. You do need to stretch it a bit in the morning and the first few casts have some coils, but after a few minutes...no problems.

I have the 35# on a 7wt spey with a 550gr short.
