TroutHunter Fluorocarbon Tippet Reviews
Not for freezing weather Review by Louis
I'm pleased in general so far, but had some knots fail in sub-freezing weather. Not while fishing (I landed an 18" bow that day), but with lengthy exposure to air after a hike to the next run a fly popped off twice as I was unlooping the tippet from around the reel. A buddy who is something of a winter fishing guru told me leave the fluoro at home when it dips below freezing--they all perform poorly in the ice. So it will be nylon for me until things thaw. Then the TH will get a full workout.
My favorite tippet Review by Lon
I've been fly fishing for about 40 years; seriously fly fishing for the last 14 years. I have tried all sorts of tippet material from several companies. I like Trouthunter the best!
I bought 3x, 4x, and 5x spools and they lasted all year. Realize Trouthunter comes in 55 yard long spools.
This tippet holds knots really well, lays out nicely when fishing dry flies and is really strong. I rarely break off a fish anymore since switching to Trouthunter.
I had my best year of fly fishing, catching more than 1,100 trout on a fly. A good part of that success comes from switching to Trouthunter tippet.
Best fluro Tippet so far Review by TenaciousP
This really is the best tippet I have found so far. I have tried several Fluros in the past and I really like this stuff in the lighter trout sizes. I have used the 6.0 and the 5.5x. The 5.5x really is the sweet spot for me. It give me a little less diameter than 5x. I know I'm splitting hair (literally) but I can nymph and dry local waters without changing. I have landed several 20"+ fish.
It really lies strait on the water and holds knots really well. Give it a shot.
