Dr. Slick Ceramic Bobbin

Bobbins are the critical tool in tying since they must keep smooth tension on the thread spool and have super smooth inserts to apply the thread to your fly. To this end, we have created two series of bobbins that handle these tasks with ease. Both series have delrin feet for smooth tension on the thread spool and have either dual ceramic or titanium oxide funnel inserts for smooth application of thread to fly. These funnel shaped inserts allow for a smoother application of thread as the bobbin is rotated and they cause less breakage than traditional pipe or straight edged inserts.

Ceramic all the way Review by David

You can't beat ceramic for a bobbin. The other bobbins become burred and snap your thread off which is probably the most annoying thing in fly tying. This won't happen with this bobbin. However, it is a little fragile. I accidentally knocked it off the table and the ceramic piece broke inside the bobbin and I was unable to tie flies because the broken ceramic would always cut the line. Don't drop or you'll be out 13 dollars.
a pleasure to use for many years of tying Review by Phil

Catching fish on a fly you have tied yourself is about as much fun as most of us can hope for. I have tied flies for longer than I'd care to admit, and I have come to the decision that tools that function well and which after I am gone are likely to serve my grandchildren well are a really good investment. The few extra bucks that a good ceramic bobbin costs (and this is one), buys you out of breaking off thread due to a bobbin that has become burred. I want my flies to be chewed beyond recognition by fish, not unravel while I am tying them.
