MOTIVE rods feature a strong butt section with fighting butt and full-wells grip to provide the necessary strength to fight and control large game fish. Heavy saltwater lines slip easily through the oversized guides, and the aluminum reel seat and saltwater compatible components round out the features. Built on a bluefin blue blank, the rods have blue primary thread wraps with royal blue and black trim wraps and come in a blue steel colored, ballistic nylon rod tube with divided liner.

Sage Motive Fly Rod Reviews
Updated review from 2014 Review by TenaciousP
This is an update to my previous review (10wt). I have gone a full 5 stars. I have now used this from a boat on numerous occasions. Plenty of lifting power. I have upgraded the line to a SA Sonar Sink 30. Wow this is a great combo. It can bomb big clousers out there. Several 30+ pound stripers landed, never a problem. I would pick this over most other more costly rods right now.
The 1090 is a Workhorse Review by Cam
Great medium action salt rod for all day casting. This is not the pool cue style salt rod, it has action and is easy casting. I use the 1090 to throw 30ft of t-14 to fish deep for lingcod and rock fish. No need for overlining-
Can't beat the value for a Saltwater stick Review by David
Really a solid fly rod for its value. I cast the 8 weight version and it seemed a bit slower that 8 weight Salt, One and Method. I would think to the beginner saltwater angler who is used to fly fishing for trout, this would be a great rod and not quite so intimidating.
Smooth action with reserved power Review by TenaciousP
I have the 1090 and use it from the surf with a 30' t-14 shooting head. This is a bit much for this rod, but I like it. It is not quite as quick as the xi3. In fact, it feels more like an xi2 with a quick tip. I actually prefer the action over my xi3. It can really protect an smaller tippet size well. I have yet to use it from a boat, so no insight on lifting power. I would not think of this as a budget rod, but more of a fast action as opposed to Sage's other very fast action rods.
