Orvis Access Mid-Arbor Fly Reel

The new Access Mid-Arbor fly fishing reels take the mid-arbor concept to a new level of performance and do it at a price that makes it accessible to everyone. Starting at just $145, the Access Reel Series offers a full-range of performance features from machined 6061 aircraft aluminum to a totally sealed carbon and stainless-steel drag surface. From the diminutive I to the big-game V, the Access offers the angler the benefits of large arbor; faster retrieve, less coiling, but at a diameter size that isn't quite as overwhelming as some large arbors. With a new larger handle, positive click drag adjustment, and three bold colors, the Access fly fishing reels are the best dollar for dollar reel value in the industry. Imported.

Orvis gets it pretty well most of the time and this reel is no exception. Works well in the larger sizes for saltwater and I tamed some big snook with it. It's light, tough, and has the capacity I need.

I have this reel in a size III and sue it on a 6wt for smallmouth fishing.

Rating this reel is tough. It is a great mid arbor reel for the money, maybe the best out there. And Orvis is stands behind the products. For my purposes (smallmouth) it is excellent and a 5star. However, in the larger sizes it is just OK. This may be due to the fact that its a mid arbor and i like a faster line pickup. I really feel like the Hydros is so much better for a bit more $ and you can downsize if you want a smaller reel. So I give it a 4star.

With an Orvis CFO III in hand that will probably outlast my grandkids, This reel in the larger V size was more than a match for the big pike a friend and I were hunting the day he let me try out his new reel. Smooth and machined to perfection, the reel made a solid performance and I knew I didn't have to coddle it, like some of the others I've used that seem to have been built to win beauty pageants than win the battle with a bruiser.
